Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates Program for Indian Tribes

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) authorized the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to implement two Home Energy Rebate programs: Home Efficiency Rebates and IRA Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates. IRA allocated $225 million to Indian Tribes for a specific Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates program benefiting low to moderate-income households.

Who is elligible?

The Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates are intended to benefit low- and moderate-income households. Low-income households will be prioritized for this program. Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates can provide up to the full cost of the improvement for low-income households (defined as below 80% AMI).

HUD calculates median family income levels for areas across the U.S. Visit the HUD website here to access the 80% AMI for your community.

What can I purchase?

A rebate may be paid only for the purchase and installation of a product meeting the requirements for allowable products and services, see the links above for eligible appliances to ensure the one you are purchasing qualifies.

Does the Program Cover Installation?

An eligible entity representative (governmental, commercial, or nonprofit) performing the installation of the applicable appliance that applies for and receives a rebate on behalf of an eligible entity and performs the installation of a qualified upgrade shall receive an incentive payment not to exceed $500 in addition to the available rebate.

How will claimants be able to establish their household income for income qualification?

Claimants may provide any of the following documentation options:

(1) Documentation of household income (for example, IRS 1040)

(2) Documentation of enrollment in a pre-qualifying program

(3) Self-attestation of either income level of enrollment in pre-qualifying program
